The things of place
Zoe Walker, Project H Writer writes …
Wednesday marked the second meet up of our writers group and we were asked to bring in an object that was important to us, as well as remember a place of importance to us. The objects were as individual as the people and the stories that came with them were equally brilliant: there was a chest made from shells, a notebook of poems, a picture of a favourite teenage haunt, a Hello Kitty won at Hull Fair, a ring made from a threepence and, most interestingly, a hotdog bag full of grass from the KC Stadium pitch.
While the objects in themselves held little value, the stories and the inspiration this afforded was brilliant and, combined with our special places, went on to form the basis of our work this week, and while some of us went a little off brief (sorry) the pieces still held lots of potential things I hope are worked on over the coming month or so.
After two hours of talking and a little writing we left full of ideas and plans to write more work. While that may or may not come to fruition I am really looking forward to the next meet up when we will be walking around Hull and basing our work on the objects and places we see.
