Hull Giraffes and flying trains
Project H participant Alex Waterson writes …
With the reminder that November is fast approaching, tonight’s meeting brought out the ultimate focus and inspiration of our project: Hull. We each brought in a photograph of or described a place in Hull and explained what value it held, many of us opting for peaceful areas such as East Park or the view of the Humber Bridge as your train leaves. Zoe also brought in a collection of photographs taken by her Grandad, images of Hull from decades ago, even before the bridge existed. The thought of Hull without the bridge got us thinking of things that Hull does not have, our list including a cathedral, a castle, mountains, and a John Lewis. All of these things provided a stimulus for the evening’s task.
As Steve told us that poetry was banned for this session and that we were to write prose, I heard more than one jaw hit the floor. However, it became apparent that prose really was the best form for the task, as we had to combine the image we brought in, one of the old photographs of Hull, and something that Hull did not have. The results involved wandering giraffes, flying trains, and the wonderful day that we received internet connection from a provider other than KC. Just a typical day in Hull, really.
